Getting Ready to Look in the Mirror

One of the most important activities to engage in during the transitional season is evaluation. In other words, as a church, we need to take a good look in the mirror. We need to ask questions such as:

  • Who are we?
  • Where have we come from and how did we get here?
  • Is what we’re doing and how we’re doing it the best approach to fulfilling our vision?
  • What strengths do we have that we can build on?
  • What are the weaknesses that need to be managed?
  • What opportunities might we be able to take advantage of in the future?
  • What might be threatening our vision, focus, and unity?

The SCC Board is currently working on assembling an Evaluation Team who will seek to objectively gather information in pursuit of answering questions such as the ones listed above. This team will then process this information and make recommendations for the future. The first action step for this team will be to design the evaluation process and the final product of this team will likely be a written report containing summaries of the evaluation and recommendations. A thorough evaluation process such as this will take some time - likely several months. While the team members have not yet been finalized, we do know that the team will include voices from the various ministry components and locations of SCC. The aim is to make the process collaborative and inclusive.

The transition season presents an opportunity to consider things from a perspective that we did not have before. We need to know who we are before we can look for who will lead us in the future. Please join us in praying for this team, the process, and for God’s wisdom and direction to prevail. More information will be communicated as it becomes available.
