A Full February!

While February is the shortest month of the year, it is shaping up to be one of the fullest for SCC Leadership. We are now 1 month in to our transition and here is what’s happened and what is being planned for February.

Farewell Sunday

While technically this did not happen in February, it is the most recent event related to our transition. Sunday, January 29 was dubbed “Farewell Day” for Pastor Ben, and the Sunday morning services in Salmon Arm were designed to include a short tribute video, prayer, and refreshments. Pastor Ben addressed the congregation and expressed his love and gratitude for the years of ministry at SCC. He also provided pre-recorded and personalized video messages for each of the other campuses (Sicamous, Sorrento, and Chase) and these were played in each of those locations on Sunday morning as well. That evening, the staff and board and their spouses gathered together with Ben and Kirstin for an informal social time. A good time was had by all!

Exit Interview

The board is scheduled to conduct an exit interview with Pastor Ben next week. This will be a time to listen and debrief the last 16 years. A thorough and meaningful exit interview is a valuable and healthy component of looking back and evaluating before we begin to look ahead to the future.

Advanced Transitional Ministry Training

A couple of years ago I (Andy deHoog) completed Basic Training with the Transitional Leadership Network. I did this more out of personal curiosity and with a desire to simply widen my leadership skills. At that time I had no idea that we would find ourselves in transition now - but God knew! Given the reality of our newfound state of transition, I have decided to take the Advanced Training with TLN which starts next week and runs over the course of 4 weeks. Conveniently, I will also be able to use this training towards credit for the master’s degree that I am working on.

Prayer

Every Wednesday, a small group of faithful pray-ers meet in the sanctuary in Salmon Arm between 12:30 and 1:15pm to seek the Lord for revival in our churches and in our communities. Of course, transition flavours just about everything these days including our prayer for revival. Anyone who would like to come join this prayer time is welcome. “If my people who are called by my name humble themselves, and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land” (2 Chronicles 7:14). Please join us in praying for our season of transition!

Regular Board Meeting

In addition to the things mentioned above, the board continues to meet on a monthly basis to conduct regular business. Please pray for continued wisdom and unity for this group of leaders.

AGM Preparations

The Annual General Meeting is scheduled for Monday, February 27, 2023 at 7pm. All members are asked to attend and non-members are welcome to come and observe. As we speak, all of the usual preparations are being made in advance of the AGM including the annual report, year-end financial statements, the annual budget, and review of new board member candidates.

A full February indeed!
