As part of SCC’s Overflow Campaign and 2020 Vision we are excited to begin a church-based, gospel-centered, biblical counselling ministry! Work has started on the Central Ministry and Counselling Center at the Salmon Arm Campus that will serve the church and community with professional and cost effective care.

Yet, part of our mission is to create a culture of care that would extend into every area of our church. We want everyone at SCC to know how to listen and love people regardless of what they are going through. We anticipate this becoming a meaningful way for all of us to declare and demonstrate the transforming power of the gospel.

In 2019 we will be offering training that will focus on equipping EVERYONE at SCC with the tools necessary to love and listen to the hurting, desperate and despairing. The training will be practical, meaningful and accessible to those who simply have a heart to help people. Though all LIFE Group Leaders, IF Tables, Men’s Huddles, Redemption Group Leaders, Children and Youth workers are encouraged to attend, it is open to ALL.

The training begins on Sunday, January 27th from 1-3pm, with the Gospel Care Seminar. Have you ever struggled with how to care for others like Christ does? Have you ever been at a loss for words or what to do when someone you know is struggling with sin or suffering and looking for help? This seminar is designed to equip you with the ability to apply the gospel in personal and specific ways to the heart and struggles of others. We will address both the theology and practice of caring like Christ providing a framework and helpful resources to join Jesus in His ministry of care.

This will be an introduction to Gospel Counselling course which will be offered throughout the Spring.

Gospel Counselling #2 - April 5-6th, 2019
Gospel Counselling #3 - May 31st-June 1st, 2019

Both the course and seminar will be led by Jason Kovacs. Jason & his wife Shawnda have been married for over 15 years and have 5 children. They share a passion for Jesus and His special care for the broken and lost. Throughout their marriage they have had the joy of serving individuals, leaders, families, churches, and non-profit organizations in the areas of pastoral care, counseling, and orphan advocacy. Jason most recently served as the Pastor of Counseling at the Austin Stone Community Church where he founded and directed The Austin Stone Counseling Center. They recently moved back to Canada to serve the church here through the Gospel Care Collective. Their greatest passion is to see people and churches experience the reality of the indescribable grace of God in their lives. They currently live in Delta, BC where they enjoy walks on the beach, hiking, mountain biking, and good food and good coffee.
